Penang food lovers, you’re in for a treat! Wanori Handroll Bar, the first casual handroll bar in Penang, has officially opened its doors at Lintang Burmah, and it’s already creating a buzz.
This cozy spot is all about serving up premium, fresh quality handrolls, donburi, sashimi, and more, all at incredibly affordable prices. During our visit, we had the chance to try their soft opening super value set, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of amazing!
We started with the Starving Set, which includes six handrolls: Blue Crab, Salmon Bomb, Hotate, Aka Ebi, Engawa, and Tamago Avocado Truffle Cream. The handrolls were perfectly crafted, and what really stood out was the Akita Komachi Rice, a premium Japanese rice known for its subtle sweetness, perfect chewiness, and beautiful shine after cooking. The rice paired so well with the fresh ingredients in each handroll, making every bite a delightful experience.
But it wasn’t just the handrolls that stole the show. We also tried a selection of appetizers, donburi, and sashimi. The Chawanmushi with Scallop & Ikura was silky and smooth, with bursts of umami from the scallop and ikura. The Ko Ebi (crispy shrimp) was addictive, and the Kani Iceplant Salad was fresh and refreshing, with a great balance of textures.
The Tori Karaage (fried chicken) was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, while the Eihire (stingray fin) added a smoky, chewy element to the meal.
The Salmon Carpaccio was a flavorful twist on classic salmon sashimi, and the Mentai Tamago had a sweet and savory creaminess that left us wanting more.
For donburi, we went with the Bara Chirashi and the Hotate Blue Crab Kani Miso Ikura Donburi. Both bowls were packed with fresh seafood and served with a generous amount of rice, just the right portion to leave us satisfied.
As for sashimi, we couldn’t resist trying the Salmon, Hotate, and Akami. The sashimi was incredibly fresh, each slice melting in our mouths with rich, delicate flavors.
The ambiance at Wanori Handroll Bar is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a quick dinner or a casual meal with friends. Whether you’re looking to indulge in delicious handrolls or enjoy a full Japanese feast, this place ticks all the boxes for a relaxed yet premium dining experience.
Overall, Wanori Handroll Bar has definitely raised the bar for casual Japanese dining in Penang. From their perfectly crafted handrolls to the fresh sashimi and satisfying donburi, every dish was thoughtfully prepared and full of flavor. If you’re looking for a great spot to enjoy delicious, affordable Japanese food, this place is a must-try!
