Walking along the almost ancient buildings of Beach St. (moved to Bishop St. now), some may find it surprising that a modern-day coffee house can be found sandwiched between the antique buildings.
With numerous of small and big tables scattered around the place, Urban Daybreak is the perfect place to bring your +1 for the breakfast in Penang. With some transparent roofing to allow natural light into the building, this café displays their aesthetics not only on their walls, but on their plates as well.
If you were to walk into this Penang breakfast cafe and you’re greeted with full seats, do not fear. A second floor is available for even more seating. Plus, the second floor is more aesthetically pleasing anyways. Urban Daybreak may look like a small cafe from the outside, but the interior is spacious and comfortable.
The food they offer on their menu ranges from a light breakfast snack, such as ‘Toaster Artisan Bread’, to a filling meal like ‘The Perfect Omelette’ and ‘The Hungry Burger’, while also offering ‘Extras’ and ‘Add ons’.

5. Norm Micro Roastery

Norm’s name is as misleading as it gets. For a place called NORM, it is as though they are intentionally straying away from the norm in a café.
Decorated with gravel all over the floor to give the place a dull and otherwise gloomy vibe, and tables led to by cement pathways through said gravel. Nothing about this place is normal! I swear, NORM’s interior designers were drunk when they planned the place. AND THE PEOPLE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!
Intentionally rusted tables, a long curvy, deviating bench in the center of the cafe. Trees growing out of the gravel and a whole lot of natural lighting through the transparent roof tiles gives NORM a truly rustic feel. Even the food is unique! Incredible plating of incredible food is always impressive. What more if it is unique.
Dishes ranging from freshly baked bread topped with eggs, bacon and garnished with fresh coriander to Asian clam accompanied by an incredible sauce that is beautifully plated and dessert that is freshly made in house. Although, some of the tables can be found to be a little bit small.

6. Unknown Cafe & Bistro

Along Jalan Pahang lies a place known only as Unknown. Yes. It’s called UNKNOWN CAFE.
Confusing right? A very homey feeling Penang breakfast cafe comes along with the interior of this place. It’s nothing Insta-worthy, but you can tell this place isn’t run by any ammeter. The vibe that is given off in this place can not be described by any other word besides ‘IMMACULATE’.
Tainted with a very plain white and accompanied by a simple dull green along the walls, the simplicity of this Penang breakfast spot is truly amazing. Fortunately, the same could be said for the food!
One look at any cup of coffee that is served in this place will immediately tell you that the barista here is on another level. And so is the chef! The sauce that comes with their deep fried chicken chop is to die for. Not to mention the french toast topped with scrambled eggs, cooked salmon and the must have potato smileys.
Craving some Mexican food? Worry not! They have quesadillas too. Every plate of food that is served tells a unique story and has a theme of its very own and that’s part of the beauty of this place.

7. Kafka @ Kelawai

Last, but definitely not least on our list is Kafka. Placed along Jalan Kelawai, the extremely modern looking exterior is sure to catch the eye of anyone who passes by.
The seating in this Penang breakfast cafe is comfortably spacious and the low hanging lights above each table dimly lights up the room at night while being assisted by natural light through the window in the day. The interior design leans toward a rustic feel while also maintaining a sense of modernity perfectly blended with Chinese tradition.
With a second floor that is no less impressive, this breakfast cafe is usually busiest during lunch hours due to the perfectly crafted food that is fine dining-esque. A variety of spaghetti, quesadillas, chicken wraps and cakes that are baked in-house are just a few reasons why Penangites and tourists alike keep coming back for more.
Not to mention, the building is on its very own plot of land, so you know what that means. That’s right! We have an outdoors area where you can take as many photos as you like! Start raking in the likes with beautiful, natural backdrops and professionally plated food and deserts all at a reasonable price.
